I have used Wahl trimmers since 2015, mostly the Magic Clip for hair and the Lithium line for beard work. The Lithium Ion Pro reviewed here was bought at retail from Amazon in July 2025 for $59. Wahl did not provide the unit.

Who should buy the Wahl Lithium Ion Pro
Buy it if you want a dedicated beard trimmer that lasts, you trim weekly and want long battery life, you have used Wahl before and like the head shape, or you want a solid sub-$60 option that does not feel cheap. Skip it if you want a pro-grade metal-body tool (Babyliss Lo-Pro FX is the upgrade), or you want a multigroom with body and ear and nose attachments (the Norelco multigroom is the better fit).
Cut quality: pro-grade for the price
The high-carbon blade cuts cleanly through a 5-day stubble without snagging. The self-sharpening claim is real in my testing: after 10 months of weekly trims the blade is still cutting at full edge with no honing.
The twelve guide combs cover 1/16 inch to 1/2 inch in even steps, which is more granular than the Babyliss comb set at three lengths plus dial.
Build quality: plastic but solid
The plastic body is the obvious cost saving against the stainless steel models. In ten months of weekly drops onto the bathroom counter it has held up with no cracks. It does not feel as nice in the hand as the all-metal Babyliss, but it is sturdier than I expected at the price.
Battery: 3 hours 45 minutes measured
Wahl rates 4 hours. We measured 3 hours 45 minutes, which is 94 percent retention after ten months of weekly use. A full beard trim takes about 8 minutes, so a charge lasts roughly 28 sessions. Quick-charge gives you about 3 minutes of runtime from a one-minute top-up.
Comb selection: twelve lengths
The comb set is the most useful in the price bracket. The included combs are plastic and snap on positively. The 1/16 inch comb is unusual at this price and useful for a permanent stubble length.
Noise: distinctly grindier
The Wahl motor is louder than the Babyliss or the Bevel. The pitch is a higher grinding note that some people find irritating. For a weekly home trim it has not bothered me; for daily salon use the pro-grade alternatives are noticeably quieter.
What is missing
No USB-C, no included travel case, and no body-and-ear attachments. The Lithium Ion Pro is a focused beard tool, the omissions are not faults.
The Lithium Ion Pro in context
For sub-$60 beard work the Wahl Lithium Ion Pro is the trimmer I would buy. For pro-grade build and feel, the Babyliss Pro Lo-Pro FX is the step up. Both are excellent at their tier.

The Wahl Lithium Ion Pro is the most useful sub-$60 beard trimmer I have used. The self-sharpening high-carbon blade held its edge across ten months of weekly trims with zero honing, the lithium battery delivered 3 hours 45 minutes against the rated 4 hours, and the twelve guide combs cover everything from stubble length to a respectable half-inch beard. The build is plastic but solid in the hand and the motor is the same Wahl design that runs in barber shops. At $59 it is the trimmer I now recommend over Norelco multigrooms for anyone who wants a focused beard tool that lasts.

Wahl rates the self-sharpening high-carbon blade for the life of the trimmer. After 10 months of weekly trims ours cuts as cleanly as new. Oiling weekly is the only maintenance the blade needs.
Can it cut a full head of hair, not just beard?+
It can in a pinch, but the cutting width is narrower than a dedicated hair clipper. For a full head buzz, a Wahl Magic Clip or Andis Master is faster. For a beard and edge-up, this is the right tool.
