Why you should trust this review
I have reviewed audio for 14 years across Engadget and What Hi-Fi, and I have owned every Sennheiser Momentum generation since the original (2012). For this review, I purchased the Momentum 4 Wireless at retail in August 2025. Sennheiser did not provide a sample. Across 7 months, I logged roughly 240 hours of use across daily commute, 3 transatlantic flights, dozens of work-from-home sessions, and a critical-listening A/B against the Sony WH-1000XM5 and Shure AONIC 50 Gen 2 on the same bench.
Every measurement is from our test setup. Sennheiserโs spec sheet was used only as a comparison point.
How we tested the Sennheiser Momentum 4
See the methodology page for the full standardized protocol.
- ANC attenuation: Calibrated dB meter at 6 frequencies. Mean: 30 dB.
- Battery life: 50 percent volume, ANC on, AAC, played to shutdown. Mean of 3 runs: 59:42.
- Frequency response: Swept 20 Hz to 20 kHz on a calibrated head simulator. Plotted against the Harman target curve.
- Comfort: Logged 22 wear sessions of 4 plus hours and one 8 hour wear day. Tracked clamping pressure and pressure points.
- Multipoint: Tested across iPhone 16 and ThinkPad X1 across 7 months. Logged failed handoffs.
Who should buy the Sennheiser Momentum 4?
Buy these if:
- You hate charging headphones, the 60 hour battery means weekly charging at most.
- You take long-haul flights and want a flagship ANC headphone you can use the whole way without battery anxiety.
- You appreciate the warm Sennheiser house tuning for long-form listening.
- You stream from Android and want aptX Adaptive support.
Skip these if:
- You want the deepest ANC, the Sony WH-1000XM5 is 6 dB better.
- You want the lightest flagship ANC headphone, the Sony at 250 g is 43 g lighter.
- You take a lot of calls in noisy spaces, the Jabra Elite 10 Gen 2 earbuds have a better mic array.
Sound quality: classic Sennheiser warmth
The 42 mm Sennheiser driver in the Momentum 4 produces a warm, slightly mid-bass forward signature with extended treble. Bass extends cleanly to 25 Hz, mids carry the body of vocals and acoustic instruments well, and treble is detailed without harshness. This is the Sennheiser house sound that has defined Momentum since 2012, refined for 2026.
In a blind A/B against the Sony WH-1000XM5, 6 of 10 listeners preferred the Sennheiser for jazz and acoustic music. The Sony was preferred for hip hop and electronic. Neither was wrong, the tunings target different listening contexts.
ANC: good, not best
In our 6 frequency lab test, the Momentum 4 averaged 30 dB of attenuation. That is 6 dB behind the Sony WH-1000XM5 and 5 dB behind the Bose QuietComfort Ultra, but it is still enough to bring a busy commute or office to a tolerable noise floor at moderate listening volume.
On a 7 hour transatlantic flight, I held playback volume at 60 percent through the cabin drone. The Sony at the same volume produced a quieter listening experience, but the Sennheiser had 30 plus hours of battery left when I landed.
Battery: the headline that delivers
Sennheiser rates 60 hours with ANC on. We measured 59:42 across 3 standardized runs at 50 percent volume. With aptX Adaptive enabled, that figure drops to roughly 52 hours. Both are within 1 percent of spec, which is unusual honesty in a category where most manufacturers overstate by 15 to 25 percent.
In real-world daily use, I averaged charging the headphones once every 14 to 18 days at roughly 2 hours of listening daily. For a long-haul traveler, that means one charge before a round-trip flight to most destinations.
Comfort and long-term durability
At 293 grams with 2.9 N/cmยฒ clamping pressure, the Momentum 4 is comfortable for 6 plus hour sessions. The pads use a synthetic leather that, after 7 months of daily wear, shows minimal cracking. The headband padding remains in original condition. The hinges and folding mechanism feel solid, no flex or creak.
The one comfort caveat: the touch controls on the right earcup occasionally misfire when you adjust a hat or pull a hood. Sonyโs WH-1000XM5 has the same issue. If you wear hats or hoods often, both headphones will frustrate you.

Should you buy the Sennheiser Momentum 4 Wireless?
The Sennheiser Momentum 4 is the longest battery flagship ANC headphone we have measured in 2026. After 7 months of daily use, we measured 59:42 of real battery life against a 60 hour rating, 30 dB of ANC, and the warm Sennheiser house tuning that makes long listening sessions easy on the ears.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Sennheiser Momentum 4 worth $379 in 2026?+
Yes, if battery life is your top priority. We measured 59:42 of real battery, double the [Sony WH-1000XM5](/reviews/sony-wh-1000xm5) and 36 hours more than [the Bose QuietComfort Ultra](/reviews/bose-quietcomfort-ultra). For long-haul travelers and people who hate charging, this is the headphone.
Sennheiser Momentum 4 vs Sony WH-1000XM5?+
The Sony wins on ANC depth (36 vs 30 dB), call quality, and weight (250 vs 293 g). The Sennheiser wins on battery (59:42 vs 29:48), warm musical tuning, and aptX Adaptive support for Android. For travelers who prioritize ANC, the Sony. For long-listen audiophiles, the Sennheiser.
How accurate is the 60 hour battery claim?+
Sennheiser rates 60 hours with ANC on at 50 percent volume. We measured 59:42 across 3 standardized runs (50 percent volume, AAC). With aptX Adaptive enabled, that figure drops to roughly 52 hours. Both are within 1 percent of spec, which is unusual honesty in this category.
Should I upgrade from the Momentum 3 to the Momentum 4?+
Yes, the Momentum 4 brings double the battery, lighter weight (293 g vs 305 g), better app-side EQ, and meaningfully better ANC. The Momentum 3 is still good if you can find it for under $200, but at MSRP the Momentum 4 is the better buy.
Are the Momentum 4 good for working from home?+
Excellent. The 59:42 battery means you charge once a week even on heavy days, and the warm tuning is fatigue-free for 6 plus hour sessions. Call quality is good but not best in class, if you take a lot of calls in noisy environments, [the Jabra Elite 10 Gen 2](/reviews/jabra-elite-10-gen-2) earbuds may be a better tool.
