The Levi’s Sherpa Trucker has been my default cold-weather casual layer for eight months. I bought one in classic indigo at retail in mid-September 2025 because my old sherpa trucker finally lost the cuff snaps after years of wear. The Sherpa Trucker is the jacket Levi’s has been making in some form since the late 1960s and the current version still uses a 12 oz cotton denim shell and polyester sherpa lining. Mine has been through cold commutes, two weekend road trips, casual office wear, and at least 10 wash cycles. The denim has the early signs of fading at the cuffs and the sherpa still feels lofty.

Why you should trust this review

I bought this jacket at retail. I have owned two previous Levi’s Sherpa Truckers across the last 14 years and have written long-term notes on heritage denim layers for this site. See our methodology page.

How we tested the Sherpa Trucker

  • 8 months of regular wear from mid-September 2025 through early May 2026
  • 10 plus wash cycles tracked for fade pattern and sherpa loft retention
  • Cold morning commutes at 30 to 50 degrees, often over a hoodie
  • Two weekend road trips with airport security and luggage compression
  • Snap closure cycle counting (estimated 600 plus open and close cycles)

Who should buy the Sherpa Trucker

Buy if you want a versatile cold-weather casual layer with heritage credibility. Buy if you respect a jacket that improves with age and develops fade patterns over time. Skip if you need a serious technical winter jacket or a slim modern silhouette. The Sherpa Trucker is boxy by design and meant for casual wear.

Denim shell

The 12 oz cotton denim is heavier and more structured than what you find in cheaper sherpa-lined truckers. Out of the box, the shell feels rigid and stands away from the body. After 10 wash cycles and 8 months of wear, the denim has softened, the cuffs show early fade, and the elbows drape naturally. A 9 or 10 oz cotton blend in this style would have looked tired within a season.

Sherpa lining

The polyester sherpa adds genuine warmth down to about 30 degrees worn over a hoodie or flannel. The pile has held its loft after 10 wash cycles which is uncommon for synthetic sherpa at this price. The collar collects dust and lint and benefits from a weekly brush to look clean.

Fit and sizing

Order one size up from your normal jacket size if you plan to layer over a hoodie. The boxy trucker cut is meant to sit slightly oversized but the body length runs short, the hem rides above the belt line on most builds. Sleeves are true to length with adjustable snap cuffs.

Verdict

The Sherpa Trucker is the right cold-weather casual layer for daily wear and heritage style. For more options, see our other clothing reviews.

★ FINAL VERDICT

Should you buy the Levi's Sherpa Trucker Jacket?

The Sherpa Trucker is the layered jacket Levi's has been making since the 1960s because the formula still works. The structured cotton denim shell holds shape through dozens of washes, the sherpa lining adds genuine warmth, and the boxy trucker cut layers comfortably over a hoodie. After 8 months of cold commutes and weekend wear, mine has clean seams, the sherpa retains its loft, and the snap buttons remain firm. At 98 dollars, it is one of the best denim sherpa layers under 150 dollars.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Sherpa Trucker worth $98 in 2026?+

Yes. The 12 oz cotton denim is heavier and more structured than what you find in cheaper sherpa-lined trucker jackets, and the heritage silhouette retains value on the resale market. For a versatile cold-weather casual layer, the dollar-per-wear math works.

Sherpa Trucker vs Wrangler Sherpa, which should I pick?+

Pick the Levi's for heavier denim, cleaner stitching, and resale value. Pick the Wrangler if you want the entry-level price point and treat the jacket as a casual budget piece.

How should the Sherpa Trucker fit?+

Order one size up from your normal jacket size if you plan to layer over a hoodie or flannel. The boxy trucker cut is meant to sit slightly oversized but the body length runs short at the hem.

Will the denim soften over time?+

Yes. Three to four wash cycles and a month of regular wear soften the shell noticeably. By month 5 the jacket has a broken-in feel and the denim drapes naturally at the elbows.
