Why we tested the 1Zpresso JX

Manual grinders have improved dramatically over the past three years, and the JX sits in the sweet spot where build quality and grind consistency converge. We tested it as a daily driver and as a travel grinder.

What we liked

The external numbered dial removes the guesswork that plagued older manual grinders. Once we found our V60 setting, returning to it on a different bean was effortless. Grinds for French press were uniform with very few fines.

What could be better

If you make four cups at a time for guests, you will feel the workout. It is built for one or two cup brewing, where its strengths shine.

Value

At $159 the 1Zpresso JX Manual Coffee Grinder is the right Home & Kitchen in 2026.

★ FINAL VERDICT

Should you buy the 1Zpresso JX Manual Coffee Grinder?

The 1Zpresso JX is the manual grinder that finally made us stop reaching for electric grinders on weekends. The 48mm steel burrs grind with the consistency of mid range electric grinders, the external numbered dial makes dialing in repeatable, and 30g of beans takes under a minute. It travels well, requires no power, and the build feels like it will outlast everything else in the cabinet. For anyone who brews one or two cups daily, it is a smart alternative to a $300 electric grinder.

Frequently asked questions

Can the JX grind for espresso?+

No, the steps are too wide for espresso. The JX Pro is the version to choose if you need to grind both filter and espresso.

How long does it take to grind 30g?+

Roughly 45 to 60 seconds at a medium V60 setting. Coarser French press grinds finish faster.

Is it good for travel?+

Yes. It is the grinder we pack for trips, and the included zippered case protects it well in luggage.
